Through The Looking Glass

Inspired by her love for Alice in Wonderland, all things quirky and anything Parisian, this tween’s boudoir is anything but ordinary. Forget ‘matchy-matchy’ and the do’s and don’ts of colour… When we were given a pewter coloured French inspired antique chest and an instruction that it was to take pride of place because of its’ sentimental price tag (it belonged to our young client’s beloved late great-grandmother), the challenge was on to create a fun-filled space worthy of a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party!

Thinking just a tad outside the usual box of colours when it came to choosing a pantone for the antique chest, we opted for the daring side of safe with a jaw-dropping shade of Tiffany Blue! Final touches were added in the form of beautiful crystal rose drawer knobs, and the result was a sight to behold – not to mention a tearjerker!

Exquisite, ethereal organza and taffeta curtains added to the show-stopping pantone, and what better way to soften it, than with the most exquisite shade of dusty pink (Plascon Savannah) on the accent wall…who would have thought??

The bed was an existing piece that had seen better days, so out came our paintbrushes once more, recreating a masterpiece with Petite Rouge Chalk Paint in Cobblestone. Dressed in trendy geometric black & white, touches of the blue and dusky pink were highlighted again in the stunning throw and scatter cushions.

Above the headboard, a giant twig heart holds its own, whilst whimsical pompoms hanging from the ceiling, create the prettiest distraction.

Then, as Alice’s luck would have it (and perhaps a little wave of a magic wand by a certain March Hare), I literally stumbled over the most exquisite piece of nature one morning whilst on my way to site. Previously sprayed white, but peeling all over from wear and tear, and absolutely bursting with character and gorgeousness, I just knew it was going to be the ‘piece de resistance’ in this magical room! Embellished with exquisite coloured lanterns, this beautiful yet simple mass of twigs was transformed into the stuff fairytale dreams are made of…

That evening when we lit it up for the first time…oh, to be a wide-eyed child again!

Most exquisite shades of cerise and German silver adorn the decor pieces… Our young client just adores corsets, which rather cleverly added to the French tone, while the muted grey wall formed the perfect canvas for the quirky wooden bunting and contemporary book rails. A gorgeous daisy chandelier twinkles from above.
